<image:title>Chiro - CHIROPRACTIC</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the biggest questions we get is: “what actually is chiropractic?” and “who should go see the chiropractor?” The answer is simply up to you. You should see a chiropractor if you want to choose a natural, non-invasive form of physical therapy, whether you aim to eliminate pain, or to increase physical function. Chiropractic is a physical therapy that aims to correct biomechanical structure, in order to improve body function. Structure changes in the body may include posture, joint range limitations and improper shortening or lengthening (weakening) of muscles. Chiropractic aims to identify these adaptations and correct them over a period of time with a mixture of manipulations, soft tissue therapies and strengthening that will improve your body’s overall performance. Some common problems we as chiropractors address include but are not limited to: Mid/ Low back pain Neck pain Headaches Pelvic pain Joint pain Migraines Sleeping issues Stress Pregnancy pain Shoulder issues Leg pain/ Sciatica</image:caption>

<image:title>Neck Pain - Neck pain</image:title>
<image:caption>Effects 15%-44% of general population Increases to 50-60% in office workers Characterised by Pain and discomfort Limited range of motion Associated headaches Tightness throughout the day Feels the need to constantly stretch or move head & neck Typically musculoskeletal unless further investigations requited Causes: Typically musculoskeletal - meaning the cause is due to the biomechanical physical system of muscles, ligaments, tendons and skeleton. This can include cervical spine, discs, supporting musculature or nerves in this area May be traumatic, meaning it has developed post-injury/ accident, and indicates temporary or permanent damage to the musculoskeletal structures. Your doctor will assess this based on your history and exam findings Most likely if it has been long standing and not traumatic in origin, it is biomechanical, meaning it has developed over a period of time, due to weaknesses, imbalances, adaptive changes due to prolonged postures. This usually results in some structures underworking, leading to other structures over working and becoming fatigued or damaged. Prolonged postures being the main cause of this type of neck pain can include sitting at a desk the majority of your day and sleeping postures and positions. Other causes of neck pain can include joint irritation, nerve entrapment, shoulder injuries, visceral referral or neurological conditions. Treatment: Thankfully, most cases of neck pain is easily treated by our chiropractors After conducting a complete history, orthopaedic and neurological examination, your Physiotherapist will recommend a course of treatment that aims to reduce pressure, restore movement and prevent recurrence. Typically, your chiropractor will recommend the following: a management plan of passive care, such as chiropractic, massage or dry needling appointments to decrease pain, symptoms and inflammation, lifestyle changes, rehab exercises and a long term plan strengthen, manage and optimise your performance based on what is most sustainable for you.</image:caption>

<image:title>Headaches - Headaches</image:title>
<image:caption>It Affects 50% -75% of the global population. Making them extremely common and a huge burden on society. There are correlations with chronic Headache disorders and the prevelence of other illnesses, such as anxiety and depression. It is one of the most common diseases of the nervous system, worldwide. Headache disorders, which are characterized by recurrent headache, are associated with personal and societal burdens of pain, disability, damaged quality of life, and financial cost. Worldwide, a minority of people with headache disorders are diagnosed appropriately by a health-care provider. Headache has been underestimated, under-recognized and under-treated throughout the world. Causes Headaches can be primary or secondary Primary Headaches are migraines, tension type and cluster Headaches Migraines: It is caused by the activation of a mechanism deep in the brain that leads to release of pain-producing inflammatory substances around the nerves and blood vessels of the head TTH: Its mechanism may be stress-related or associated with musculoskeletal problems in the neck. cluster : uncommon, can be episodic or chronic, cause unknown Secondary headaches: brought on by something else Common secondary HA can be medication induced (overuse) Cervicogenic: caused by changes in the cervical spine Hormonal Trigger point Treatment Headaches have many causes, or “triggers.” These may include foods, environmental stimuli (noises, lights, stress, etc.) and/or behaviors (insomnia, excessive exercise, blood sugar changes, etc.). About 5 percent of all headaches are warning signals caused by physical problems. The remaining 95 percent of headaches are primary headaches, such as tension, migraine, or cluster headaches. These types of headaches are not caused by disease; the headache itself is the primary concern. The greatest majority of primary headaches are associated with muscle tension in the neck. Today, Americans engage in more sedentary activities than in the past, and more hours are spent in one fixed position or posture (such as sitting in front of a computer). This can increase joint irritation and muscle tension in the neck, upper back and scalp, causing your head to ache. What Can a Doctor of Chiropractic Do? Your doctor of chiropractic may do one or more of the following if you suffer from a primary headache: Perform spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustments to improve spinal function and alleviate the stress on your system. Provide nutritional advice, recommending a change in diet and perhaps the addition of B complex vitamins. Offer advice on posture, ergonomics (work postures), exercises and relaxation techniques. This advice should help to relieve the recurring joint irritation and tension in the muscles of the neck and upper back. Doctors of chiropractic undergo extensive training to help their patients in many ways beyond just treatment for low-back pain. They know how tension in the spine relates to problems in other parts of the body, and they can take steps to relieve those problems.</image:caption>

<image:title>Sciatica - Sciatica</image:title>
<image:caption>Sciatica can be described as pain in the back and legs, caused by pressure on the lumbar nerves exiting the lower spine. It affects up to 40% of the population, and typically occurs in people in their 30s and 40s and older, due to injury to the low back or arthritis in the spine. Sciatica is the name for a presentation of symptoms, characterised by: Leg pain, usually only one leg at a time Numbness Pin and needles Tingling Weakness in affected leg Pain that starts at the back and travels down the leg, past the knee Causes Sciatica is a set of symptoms, as a result of other underlying issues. Most causes of sciatica originate from the low back, such as herniated or degenerated discs, spinal stenosis, or spondylolisthesis. Muscle spasms can also cause sciatica by compressing the sciatic nerve as it travels through the muscles. Less common causes of sciatica include infection, pelvic injury or fracture, and tumours. In older age groups, sciatica may occur as the result of conditions caused by spinal degeneration, such as spinal stenosis. This is where the pathways through which the sciatic nerve travels are narrowed, causing compression and/or irritation of the nerve. Age-related outgrowths of bone (bone spurs) on the vertebrae can also compress the sciatic nerve. While any injury or process which causes compression of the sciatic nerve can cause sciatic pain, in many cases there may be no specific cause identified for the sciatic pain. Things can increase the likelihood of sciatica occurring: Older age Pregnancy Being overweight Smoking Jobs that involve twisting of the back or carrying heavy loads Sitting for long periods.</image:caption>

<image:title>Chiro (Copy) - CHIROPRACTIC</image:title>
